Crooks

American Standard Moving & Storage are crooks. They stole items from me & denied it. Lied to me on the phone when I asked if there were subcontractors (they said no). Kept my items for over a week after I got to my new home. Charged me an extra $1000 when the truck got to my place. They should be arrested.

Reported to DOT and FMCSA.

These people are part of a professional rip-off ring. They routinely pass your move on to other movers who extort more and more money out of you. Also, don't expect all your belongings to arrive, or for them to actually do anything to get you compensated.

Sure their Customer Service team will talk a good game. People like "Nicole" will promise to be working on your behalf. Everyone is shocked at how the other mover in the chain treated you and says they've never worked with that company before and now won't again. They ALL say that, and of course, they work with each other regularly. This is how it is meant to work.

I had a "binding estimate" for $1800 (which disappears after you sign it, so be sure to take a screenshot before hitting submit when you digitally sign if you're stupid enough to hire them after reading the reviews on this site). Their technical systems are fully designed to accommodate the rip-off.

Anyway, this binding estimate was supposed to include a sectional sofa and washing machine, among other things.

The movers showed up 9 hours late (late at night) and insisted on a moving price almost twice that, without the sectional or washer, since they intended to charge by space on the truck, not weight, since they charge by whichever is higher.

Eventually I signed the Bill of Lading they had since it was 1am and I needed to leave the next day, but it was definitely under duress.

I was later told by a member of the NM Attorney General's office that that BOL was not a valid contract, because it became "door to door sales" when he increased the price and negotiated items to bring with me. Those contracts require things like a font size legible to the naked eye (literally specified at 10pt or above) and a 3 day cooling off period in which the contract can be nullified. The BOL had tiny fine print (more like 3pt) and was activated immediately, without a copy even being given to me. (email promised that never arrived)

To stay within the allotted 4k characters for this review, I'll skip all the lies I was told by AMS during this period and after I found so much stuff missing on unpacking, and skip to delivery. I'd been told 3-6 weeks. I wrongly assumed they'd let me know more than a few minutes in advance when my stuff was arriving, so I could tell them if I needed any of the storage, but no. Thankfully my new landlord could let me unload stuff into the garage, but that was when the next leg of the rip-off began.

This was now a third company hired by American Moving & Storage to rip people off on their behalf. They had the invalid BOL from the 2nd guys (Spark Moving of IL and NM) and were demanding another $1,500 or threatened to put my stuff in storage there, charging me another $1,000 to get it out of storage if they did.

Thankfully my new landlord saw a 20/20 or 60 Minutes special on moving rackets like these and knew what was going on. She called the police and long story short, I wound up getting my stuff for more than I owed but less than they were trying to extract from me. I got 80% of my stuff anyway. A lot was missing, including a rug I saw the guy with when unloading, which somehow was gone once we could unpack the garage the next week when I could move in. They showed me the rug, but then put it back on their truck and took it!

Thankfully I contested the final charges with my bank and was able to get $1,200 back, so I ultimately only overpaid by about $500, not counting the missing items.

If you already used them, you can file a Moving Fraud Complaint on the fmcsa dot gov website and also with the FTC. You can also dispute the charges with your bank.

If you're in NM, there is additional protection of state law. There is the "Unfair Practices Act" and also the Household Goods Voluntary Dispute Settlement program.

Good luck.

Great job!

American Standard moved me in record time and they did not damage a single thing! They are amazing! Last month I got a good and low deal from them. They sent their moving team on time on the day of the move and the guys moved everything very nicely. The packing was also done with care. All my things were in perfect shape when it was delivered. The guys also helped me unpack too! These guys are the best solution for your moving needs.

Our moving experience.

DO NOT TORTURE YOURSELF WITH THIS COMPANY!! They were a nightmare. We received our quote when moving to Fla from Pittsburgh and we were desperate for help and we signed a contract. American Standard asked how many boxes and what sizes we would be moving and gave us a quote based on that along with the furniture that we had. We were excited that it will cost about $4000 and my husband wouldn’t have to work so hard loading a truck and driving it to Florida. I did read some reviews but I don’t believe everything that I read but to be honest I was a little afraid and we asked several questions to the movers who finally showed up two days later than what they should have. They showed up with a budget truck that looked way too small for our things we had to rent a 28 foot truck and we still had to come back for another load when it was all said and done. My husband asked the mover who showed up with another contract what our end price would be when we wanted our things out of storage and he said it all depended on what the weight scale said when they went through the weighing stations. After two hours of arguing with this man and his crew and him standing there pacing wanting us to sign another contract because he said “it will probably be around seven to $9000 that’s just my professional opinion” My husband sent them out of the house and they did not want to leave we almost had to call the police. And believe me you do not get your things Until you pay the movers. We fought to get back our deposit of almost $1000 but their contracts are so ironclad even though it was false perception we are out $1000 to the scam artist. That all sounds great when you’re on the phone with him believe me and they are quick to get you to sign the contract but it’s a whole different ballgame when those movers show up. When the mover could not guarantee a price of what we were originally given he started haggling down his price..The bottom line was we did not want them taking our things without having a final price and when it almost tripled according to the movers professional opinion we are not about to let our things go unless we had it in writing because we knew we may never see your things again. I believe we all work way too hard for our money to put up with this type of business so this is my warning and I am not one to write bad reviews I’ve been in the hospitality business and when someone writes a bad review I take it to heart so I do not believe everything I read but this was a true nightmare!!

The worst.

I had a small amount of boxes (12), rocker and floor lamp moved from New Jersey to Cape Coral Florida. I got 4 quote from different moves. American was the most expensive but them told me they were the best. I packed all the boxes myself and they were suppose to pad my rocker and box and pad my floor lamp. When my items were delivered the lamp was never boxed or packed and was destroyed. The rocker was not padded so it was chipped and scratched. I put a claim in and was offered $24.00 for the damages. I disputed the claim based on neglect and still was given $24.00. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Paid top dollar and got nothing from them other than broken items delivered.

**AVOID** American Standard. **avoid**.

Ok, you’ve been warned. You know what they’re really good at? Convincing you to stay with them when you have a bad feeling about using this service.

So I called and got a reasonable quote. Tip: go over with them every item you will be moving and exactly how many boxes you will need. Thought I did this. Then shortly before the move got a call to review the inventory. Great. Realized I needed to add more boxes. They said they needed to add another $800 because, you know it’s all about the weight and if the goods are under the allotted weight you will get money back when they unload at the destination. Moving Day: oh no, it’s by cubic feet, not weight. Oh my god They totally did the bait and switch.. and I thought I was smarter then this. So for anyone who decides to go with them- you are charged extra if you go over the allotted cubic feet OR weight in your contract. Pay attention because these can be very different. Oh, and yeah no money back if you’re under either number. Ugh! I’m so mad at myself. It’s my fault for going with these people. Lesson learned.

Long-distance move from Watertown, NY to Sacramento, CA

Stay clear, I didn't heed the warning and I am paying for it.

Save yourself a lot of money and stress, go somewhere else. The move cost more than double of original cost. The day before my scheduled pick up I received a call from the movers notifying me they would arrive in 45 minutes. I was left scrambling. They arrived in a rental truck and began throwing my household goods into it. They were thugs whose pants were down to their knees with their ass hanging out. They demanded more money and when I stated I had a contract for a set amount quoted, they got in my face stating I was dealing with them now. I attempted to call American standard but they would not take my calls. When I switched phones they picked up right away, they then asked to speak with the movers who I could hear talking on the phone with them, laughing. I was informed movers have a right to demand up to 75 percent of the money in cash up front at pick up based on their own quote. I ended up giving them a money order as well as a check to proceed. We heard them slamming furniture into the floor and walls. At one point we thought they were going to come through the upstairs floor. My walls and ceiling have holes and marks. All calls to American Standard were unanswered. Website chat isn’t part of the company and no help. I switched phones to use a different number and they picked up. They then told me that customer service was in a meeting and hung up. I attempted to call back no answer. I used ANOTHER phone and they picked up immediately. This time no customer service was in yet. Must be difficult to have a meeting with no one in. a few days later I was finally able to speak to someone who said my stuff weighed twice as much. I stated that was impossible because the stuff didn’t change weights in 8 months. They said that’s the way it is. The day before arrival I received a call that they would be at my new house for delivery at 0800. About 11 o’clock at night I got a call saying they were being inspected because I had plants. I stated at no time did I have plants in my shipment. They said they took everything off the truck and repacked it. The following morning instead of showing at 0800 they arrived at 0600. They wanted additional 4700 dollars. I ended up paying to get my stuff back from hostage. I was told I needed cash. I informed them the bank opens at 0800. They then charged me 150 dollars an hour for waiting. I told them they were early and again I called American standard who informed me it doesn’t matter. Even if they arrive in the middle of the night I have to be there and the scheduled time doesn’t matter. I ended up paying to end the nightmare. After returning with the cash from the bank the driver demanded it be new bills and I had to go back to the bank. My stuff was now on a 55 foot semi-trailer. I had to wake the neighbors to have them move their cars. Everything is badly damaged, every box crushed, had holes, or ripped open. Only one guy was moving stuff and he struggled on the bigger items causing damage to walls and slamming stuff. At one point the mover was urinating with the bathroom door open with my special needs daughter and fiancé nearby. I ended up helping move stuff in to get rid of them. The hardware was lost to the furniture they disassembled thus unable to be reassembled. All our books shelves and cabinets that had removable shelves were missing. We ended up with other peoples stuff as they apparently crammed multiple people stuff in the same shipment. I’ve moved 30+ times in the military. Goods I’ve owned for 30 years was broken during this move. They have zero respect for you and your things. This company lied and is unreachable. Stay away from this company.

Don’t expect customer service/compensation.

I will never use movers this way again after my first and last experience with American standard. If you look over the past month they would have at least five emails and 40 missed calls from me trying to get through to customer service. You can always reach the sales team though!

They said the price was by weight and that the last trip would likely be lower than expected. I wouldn’t have been thrown off over or under but the final cost was a flat even 1300.. when I asked for some proof of scale weight they said the couldn’t give it to me.

My favorite recliner now has a large cigarette burn in the arm that was conveniently covered with a red item number sticker.

Two items broken

I stereo stolen

8 items badly scratch or damaged because the were not wrapped properly during the “full service move.”

If anyone at the company cares at all please reach out. I will be linking this review to your email again. Maybe you can respond this time.

Do not use this company!

I agreed to pay $1570 to move two armoires, a desk with hutch, refrigerator, dresser, and 10 boxes of clothes, etc. When the truck got here they told me they were going to have to charge more than original quote--because I had four extra boxes. I explained that I was NOT taking the desk and hutch, and that should more than compensate for the four boxes. Then, even though I managed to fit everything into ten boxes, they still insisted on raising me from 300 cu/ft to 450. I refused to pay the extra money, so they left. I measured everything--total of 221 cu/ft. Even with the desk would have been less than the agreed to 300 cu/ft. They are refusing to refund the $570 deposit. (I found someone else to do it for $1200).

Scammers- STAY AWAY.

Not only is this company completely unprofessional- they are disrespectful and ignorant of basic human decency. I received a text message mocking me when I mentioned I was going with a different company after receiving a disturbing voicemail from the cellphone that kept texting me- Mocking me saying 'you don't need to make excuses for not being able to afford us'. Are you serious? Is that how you conduct business? By insulting customers. Meanwhile, the voicemail I received was asking if I would pay for a Hooker. Yes, you read that correctly. A hooker. I have it saved. I've sent it to local news outlets in the Boca area. The company's response: "We listened to the voicemail and we agree it's inappropriate, however we believe he pocket dialed you and wasn't asking you to pay for the hooker directly." OH MY GOD!! Is this a joke!! So that makes it ok? Am I on candid camera? No offer to compensate, No offer to make it right.. just sorry. Sorry we have super sketchy employees. WTF. Stay FAR FAR AWAY. Literally any company has to be better than this one. Especially if you are a single female moving alone - I would not trust these men at all.

Rude and harassed me via text.

In my phone call to receive a quote for my move I was talked down to after I stated I wanted to check other companies he then went on to start texting me and talking down falling me ignorant and I was making a stupid decision. When I called back to speak to a manager I was just put on hold. They over quoted my move and were trying to justify the 2,100.00 move. Its not even a studio amount of stuff. After looking over these reviews it looks like this company has a history of doing this.

Do Not Use!

When the reservation was made I was given a "GRAND TOTAL" (these words are also on an email confirmation AND a voicemail). Was told this includes packing material/labor and boxes. This included EVERYTHING per Jacob..two storage sheds, two stops in FL and two stops in TN. This was for my 77 year old mother who is on a fixed income! Day of delivery we were given a total $1400 OVER the "GRAND TOTAL"! When I called them they said they had to request the paperwork and would call back. THREE days later I had to call them again and they still didn't have the paperwork. Then I find out they are a moving coordinator and use Ocean Moving and Ocean is the one who is charging more. I called Ocean and they only agreed to knock off $250. So, I guess I'm supposed to be happy that I'm paying $1150 OVER the "grand total" instead of $1400. DO NOT use this or Ocean Movers..unless you like being lied to and having your elderly parent being taken advantage of.

Stole $1750.00.

There really should be a zero star option. I scheduled my move with Mitch Davis on 6/23. He mentioned I would need to put $1750.00 down and there would be a 20% fee if I didn't pay via e-check, so I obliged.

Right as I was about to hang up with Mitch he said "If you hear anything bad about us just ignore it." Alarm bells started ringing and I did a quick google of American Standard Moving & Storage. The reviews were nothing less than terrifying.

I canceled my moving job the morning of 6/24. This job was requested on 6/23, therefore the cancellation was within 24 hours of booking - well within the written contract of 72 hours to receive my deposit back.

American Standard Moving gave written confirmation that I would receive my deposit refund within 30 days of original request.

To be honest I was skeptical - reviews mention never receiving deposits. I called my bank but they said because I had authorized an e-check there was nothing I could do.

On 7/20 I was informed by a customer service representative that I would receive my payment of $1750.00 on 7/23. I never received payment.

On 7/24 I followed up at 3pm. The customer service representative told me their billing specialist was out to lunch and would return my call. I never received a call.

7/29, I spent a total of 45 minutes on hold waiting for a representative. After about 15 minutes I had a customer service rep answer the phone and mention she would put my on a brief hold to look up my account. She never requested my name or account information.

On 7/31 I had my lawyer send a letter to American Standard Moving & Storage, demanding they honor my contract and refund me my $1750.00.

It is 8/27, I have yet to receive my refund and they have not responded to my lawyer. They will not pick up when I call. It sickens me that they are acquiring new clients daily and ripping them off, and getting away with it.

Long story short, they stole $1750.00 and are in breach of contract.

Lost my Bose speaker bar.

THIEVES, this word may sound harsh, but I believe they stole my Bose speaker bar. I used Best Moving Van Line to move from CA to TX, they took 4 weeks to move my stuff. When my stuff arrived, most of my furniture had dents and damages. But this is not the biggest of my worries, they had lost my BOSE SPEAKER BAR. There were 62 items/packages in my shipment, I received all the 61 items, except for my Bose speaker !!. I had used the original Bose box to pack it, so for anyone who's handling it, it was very clearly visible that it's a Bose speaker. So I can't think of any other reason for only this item to be lost/misplaced.

Its not the question of money, instead its the issue of integrity. When we give our stuff to move, we believe in them, we have our faith in them. When moving 1700 Miles, I understand that there are some chances of having a minor damage to furniture. But missing/stealing a valuable item ?

I booked my moving through "American Standard Moving" and they had hired an other company "Best Moving Van Line" to physically move them.

Attached the remarks from the inventory paper, signed by their own delivery person.

American Standard review.

American Standard is NOT a moving company. They are a 'broker' who then hires out your move to one or two other companies. We had two. One took the items to storage in Chicago. 2nd company moved them 5 weeks later to Texas. Neither of them represented American Standard, so when you try to mention differing information that the salesman had told you, they know nothing about it.. (another problem)

My main objection to American Standard is that they are cleverly deceptive and NOT transparent with the information they give you. They don't explain that they are a broker, their way of estimating costs is very flawed, and they give you false information. One example: we specifically asked them "What will happen if all of our items won't fit in the truck you send?" They replied: "Don't worry about it, we'll just send another truck."

In the end--we ended up paying 3 TIMES their original quote! But by then, we had no alternative--it was 5 days before the move, and then the day of the move. Too late to hire our own truck, or another company.

Here are 4 specific things I disliked about their salesmen:

1) ORIGINAL BOOKING: They have you guess several months beforehand, how much you will be packing. Although we knew which furniture we were taking, there was no way we could accurately guess how many boxes (and what sizes ) we would end up with. The salesman said: "Oh don't worry about it--we always over estimate on the weight of the furniture--you'll be fine." His original estimate was $3670 and 5,009 LBs. (716 cubic ft.)

2) 5 DAYS BEFORE MOVE DATE--their company called me to get a FINAL count on our furniture and our boxes. By then we had 200 boxes, but our furniture was as before. Our price was now $7,700--more than DOUBLE., and 8838 Lbs. (1263 cubic ft.)

3) DAY OF THE MOVE: Once the crew arrived and had filled their 24' truck, there were still a number of leftover items that would NOT fit in it. They would NOT get us another truck, AND they now changed our charge to $9,700 based on a full truck weight (I don't recall the poundage, but 1850 cubic ft.). We were also stuck with the additional items and had to get on the phone the next morning and try to find a rental truck we could drive ourselves-which was an ADDITIONAL $1,500. Making our GRAND MOVING TOTAL: $11,200. (We also had to rent a platform to tow our 2nd car behind the rental truck--now that my husband would be driving the truck and not our car).

4) We DID have an additional 33 boxes more than we had had on Saturday--but that was because the American Standard salesman had told us that we could leave our drawers and cabinets full. The actual moving foreman on the day of the move, said 'No way!!" and made us repack all those items on the spot. Those additional boxes made their truck too full for the rest of our items! More false information American Standard had given us. INTERESTINGLY: When the second moving company delivered our items in Texas (from the Chicago storage center), their 24' truck was only 3/4 full, instead of completely full. Different folks had packed it this time, and made it fit much better! If that had happened on the day of the move, we wouldn't have had to rent an additional truck.

We tried calling American Standard, that day, the next day, and several times thereafter, to see if they would kindly wave at least SOME of the additional charges. Although the original salesman said he would help us get back the last bump in fees, he never did, and the others I talked to in customer service were very hard-nosed about the final price. Nothing was changed.

If all of the information had been correctly presented by our salesman (You might weigh a lot more than this--our estimates can be under, you can't leave your drawers and cabinets full, and we won't send you an extra truck if you're over) -we would NEVER have signed up with them. BEWARE!!

DO NOT USE

I am writing this to save someone the trouble of having a similar experience.

Screenshots of their terms and condition are included in this review which talk about them being a coordinator/broker.

Don’t use this company - they are a moving broker but will present their services as being in-house and guarantee white glove service that they have no business selling you on. American Standard took our $1000 plus deposit to make the connection and do absolutely nothing else - no returned phone calls, emails or coordination support for our move. Their business model is predatory and are of no benefit to the consumer or the small local moving companies they contract. We end up paying more and the local companies make less with an unnecessary middle man. They contract moving companies and then have zero control over what actually happens when the movers show up. We ended up with a local vendor we could have found on our own. Fortunately, our movers were good but they deserved 100% of the fees we paid for actually doing the work. I spoke with our moving driver and he explained that brokers are terrible for business and the smaller moving companies’ businesses suffer because of what companies like American Standard do when they insert themselves between moving vendors and customers.

I worked with Brian and he was so friendly over the phone when walking us through their services and getting us to sign the contract and send our deposit. I was hesitant with the speed at which he moved us through the process but he was so friendly I ignored my intuition. After they received our deposit, it was impossible to get in touch with him. The one time I did catch him on the phone, his whole demeanor was changed and it was honestly kind of creepy. We’d been sold a false image and manipulated. I was stressed and worried the whole time because I knew we’d made a mistake.

Do your own research and hire someone who is local and will do a walkthrough. American Standard did not request a walkthrough and said photos were unnecessary. Reputable movers will do a walkthrough - do not trust anyone who says they do not need to see your house. It is because they know it won’t be their problem once they get your deposit.

Professional Con-Artists or Poor Internal Controls - YOU DECIDE

After days of searching for the right carrier to move our company goods safely from Michigan to California, we came across American Standard Moving & Storage. American Standard Moving & Storage seemed to have decent rates and the best insurance coverage compared to the competition. The Sales rep (Jason) offered me an insurance plan of $10,000 per unit (25x) totaling $250,000 so we decided to award them with the job.

Two days later, a Mexican gang showed up to begin moving our goods while the manager and I were completing paperwork. There was a discrepancy in the insurance coverage amounts from what the sales rep (Jason) had previously stated over the phone. The maximum coverage wasn't even 10% of the agreed-upon amount. After going back and forth, we decided to cancel the job and not risk them moving our goods. A $1,708 non-refundable charge is what I get stuck with all because their sales guy (Jason) is offering services the company does not even offer.

Overall, beware of similar experiences. Things to look out for:

• Verify paperwork and validate details with a second employee.

• Don't let the movers begin working until all paperwork is completed.

“Absolutely unprofessional and liars” - Horrible !!!

I take the time to write a comment to warn people who want to use the "supposed" services that these moving companies offer “AMERICAN STANDARD MOVING and its partner CENTURY MOVING SERVICES” based in Passaic, NJ.

During our process of moving to Florida on November 16th, 2020, we called on this company AMERICAN STANDARD MOVING because the rates they offered were attractive and therefore saved money. During our initial phone call with M. William Jameson, one of the sales representatives of the company, we were "confirmed, certified" that all personal belongings (ranging from clothes to glasses...) would be packed, and therefore protected. In addition, the price that M. Jameson had absolutely confirmed to us corresponding to the list of items that we had precisely described to him (There was no furniture because our home buyer purchased them).

On November 12th, 2020, CENTURY MOVING SERVICES partner of AMERICAN STANDARD MOVING came to pack our belongings. Upon entry, M. Nestor Selay, team leader of the movers, told us that the declared items exceeded the initial amount. We had to add $4,000 from the initial price. First big bad disappointment and lie: M. Jameson; the sale representative had acknowledged receipt of our list of items. Second big bad disappointment and lie (and I will insist on this term because we had to deal with liars from the start until the end), M. Selay and his team's movers did not respect any professional services protocol. They didn’t take the time to pack our belongings as Jameson had sold them to us during our initial phone call. Please take the time to think about it: you take care of your belongings because you care about them; you had paid for these items and, here are companies instead to follow the right professional protocol services, break, and destroy your belongings. How would you react? (Please, I invite you to look at the photos we took when we opened some of our boxes).

Once we arrived in Florida, we contacted the AMERICAN STANDARD MOVING because we wanted to know when the delivery was planned. The company was not clear and demanded that we pay even before the delivery. Even ignoring how this moving process will be completed, we paid, of course. The situation was stressful and unpredictable.

Our boxes finally were delivered: but what was the dreadful surprise to discover that the movers have broken many of our belongings, what a shame! I tried to contact M. Selay, I had no time to explain the purpose of my phone call then he hang up on me (I'll leave it to you to make up your own mind).

To conclude, I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU NOT TO USE THE SERVICES OF THESE COMPANIES AMERICAN STANDARD MOVING and CENTURY MOVING SERVICES; THIS IS FAR FROM BEING SERIOUS BUSINESSES. WE HAVE BEEN TRAPPED, BY UNPROFESSIONALS. WHAT A SHAME! INDEED, IT IS PREFERRED TO PAY MORE WITH PROFESSIONAL COMPANIES AND THEREFORE BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR BELONGINGS IN GOOD CONDITION.

I HOPE THIS REVIEWS WILL HAVE IMPORTANT VISIBILITY. A PROCEDURE IS SETTING UP WITH THE COMPETENT AUTHORITIES.

Long-distance move from Lancaster, CA to Park Falls, WI

Do not use — bait and switch

We sold our furniture and placed a few pieces and our remaining belongings in boxes in a 10 x 20 storage unit in California until we could find a house in Wisconsin.

Although we originally intended to move our belongings ourselves, my husband was relieved when we got a great quote at $2000 last December.

Three days before the move in February, we got a call from the logistics person who “determined” that our belongings weighed significantly more than originally quoted. He said repeatedly he wanted to make sure we had a truck “big enough” to take our stuff. So he increased our load to 7000 pounds and the quote jumped to $6700. I asked three times if we were paying for a larger truck, and he said no that we were paying for the weight which would be ultimately determined on the day of the move when the truck got weighed.

On the morning of the move, a Budget box truck showed up with three men. The driver got out, opened our unit, surveyed the contents and informed me it would cost $11,900 to move everything in the unit. What?!?!? He said our contract was only for 1000 ft.³ and our unit contain 1900 ft.³ so we could either pay the full amount or he could move half of our stuff according to the contract.

When I protested loudly he told me to call the company which I did. The customer service rep told me I had three options: (1) Pay $11,900 to have everything moved; (2) have them move half our stuff per the contract; (3) decline service and forfeit the deposit. I asked her how many customers called on moving day livid as I was? She did not answer but repeated my options and asked what I was going to do? I told her I would speak with my husband and let the driver know.

We told the driver we would go ahead and move half of our stuff and figure out what we would do with the rest. As we were pointing out what he was going to move, we were making it clear that it was a dishonest bait and switch operation. He said “I don’t have to listen to this”, got in his truck and left without moving any of our belongings.

I immediately called the company and went straight to voicemail. I asked them to call me right away. They never did. Instead, I got an email within a half hour stating we had refused service and forfeited our $2300 deposit.

Fortunately for us, we were able to rent a truck and got help loading and unloading both ends. But how many customers have been left with no recourse on move day but to pay these unscrupulous increases.

In our case, they knew the exact volume of a 10 x 20 storage unit. Imagine how much easier it is for them to get over on someone with a less defined space like a house?

Because we did not refuse service, we disputed the deposit charge through our credit card. Do not use this company. Bottom line.

Long-distance move from San Diego, CA to Tucson, AZ

Dreadful and nightmarish

I contacted this company along with about five others to gather a 10x20 storage unit from San Diego to Tucson. I chose this firm as being competitively priced (not the lowest) and helpful representation initially. Their first mover to show up tripled the price, the second mover to show up doubled the price. I gave up. I have attempted communication with this company via email and certified mail, absolutely no response. My filings thus far include regulating boards FMCSA, DOT, and BBB... wish me luck.

User's recommendation: Beware, run quickly... from the reviews I have read about this company I am far from the only one... BBB 185 complaints closed in last 3 years, 129 complaints closed in last 12 months yet only in business for 2 years....

Long-distance move from Illinois to Florida

Beware Avoid at all cost!

This company is a complete scam! They claim to give you a high quote and that their will be no extra cost guaranteed. As soon as they arrive before they are even in the door they say it’s going to cost more. They won’t tell you how much more they just want you to go along with them until they have all your stuff and you have to pay whatever they want. They arrived with no moving blankets and want to charge extra for them even though the contract says they are included. They are very unprofessional and rude. They scraped our wood floors, dented our walls and furniture. They threatened us when we complained. I would give them no stars !

Local move from Albany, CA to Brea, CA

Biggest Hassle Ever!

Booked a move for my elderly low income aunt. They are a broker, but were still the best price: $2,400 for a 3k lbs, 426 cubic ft move (1 bedroom apt). An in person estimate was $3,200 for $2,400 lbs (they said they don't go by cubic ft) A family owned moving company in OR even looked them up and said they had good reviews in the industry and it was a good price. The sales guy, Mitchel, said he overestimated everything. I wanted them to come on a Saturday morning so my aunt and I could head to CA via car right afterwards but they needed a 2 day window. I said Friday/Saturday with Sat A.M. preference. 3 days before the move, Scott from QA called my aunt. She added a few things to the inventory (a few boxes, a stool or two) and the estimate shot up to $3k, 3,600 cubic ft! My aunt paid them $300 over the phone for more deposit. When she told me, I called to see why it went up so much. I called 3 times and Scott never called me back. Then, Jennifer in customer service explained it. I wanted to remove a few things from the inventory and she said it was too late. It wouldn't have been if Scott would have called me back yesterday! There was nothing I could do as we had already given them almost $1k for the deposit and needed to move. I asked who the carrier was and googled them and they were nowhere to be found. Had no website, but turns out they were licensed and only had 1 truck. Jennifer told me that on the day of the move the carrier would let me CHOOSE between a price based on cubic square ft OR to take a gamble and pay by weight but they won't know that price until after they go through the weigh station. Thursday before the move, Rachael called and said it would be Saturday. We asked what time and she said the driver would call the day before with the time. On Friday the driver called and said they would be there between 12p-3pm on Sat. We were disappointed as we wanted early morning. On Saturday (move day) the driver called and said he cannot come that day as he had already driven 10 hours and the law says he cannot drive more hours. I know that's the law, but that is not my problem, that is his company's scheduling problem. He said he will come Sunday morning between 7-8. At 8am I called him and he said he was 25 mins away and just needed to jump in the shower and grab something to eat because he was diabetic. Although I feel for his health needs, that is still not my problem. He came at 9:30am in a Budget truck. The crew was pleasant and did a great job in wrapping furniture up and was speedy. We gave them the check for the next installment. They told us the amount of the installment owed at delivery and said they don't base costs on pounds, only cubic feet, and the cubic feet lined up with the $3,000 estimate. We were really bummed as originally we booked because it was $2,400. The day of delivery the carrier's dispatch called my aunt and said the check she gave the driver was made out to American Standard when it should have been made out to the carrier company. They said they would mail her the check back and she could just bring the whole amount owed at delivery. She said, "No way. I am not paying another dime until you give me my check in person and I go cash it (since the check is like cash and is already withdrawn from your account the minute you request the check.)" The dispatch said the driver should have checked and made sure it was made out to the right person. My aunt said this is not our problem. The dispatch ended up meeting up with the driver, gave him the check, then the driver came to the delivery spot, gave my aunt the check, she went and cashed it, brought back the funds and paid in full. I think what we paid in the end might have been the going rate for that kind of move, but it was the biggest hassle I've ever had to deal with. Pretty sure American Standard made $1,000 out of that. Do not go with a broker. Instead have several companies come to your house and estimate in person and compare.

Long-distance move from Yuma, AZ to Savannah, GA

Awful.

I am beyond furious. I had a quote a month ago with the exact contents of my unit. A week before pick up customer service called me to verify the contents and the quote went up $200 for a coffee table. Fine whatever, I’ll pay the difference. On the day of pick up the driver calls me to tell me that the contents of my unit were correct but they didn’t realize how big my headboard was. It has 4 posts, which I mentioned in my initial call with customer service. He then tells me the price is now $1000 more than my initial cost of $2000, which I have already paid most of. This is absolutely ridiculous and horrible customer service. There is no way my 8x10 storage unit with one bedroom and living room furniture should cost me over $3000. Who the hell has an extra $1000 laying around to pay movers after two final quotes. At this point I wish I would have used a different company. All of my belongings were already professionally packed, labeled and wrapped by a precious moving company. I want answers. I called my agent Friday afternoon, multiple times, after I received this information and he did not answer any of my phone calls or emails. I spoke to someone in his office and was hung up on and sent to voicemail when trying to call back. I the. Emailed customer service two days ago and haven’t received an email or call back. Don’t use this company!

Can’t say enough!

I recently used American Standard Moving and Storage to move items from a house to a condo. I can’t say enough good things about them - right from the beginning they were supportive and helpful. My rep called me right away to find out what I needed and gave me a rough estimate on costs. Followed up the conversation in an email so I could get in touch with him at any time. The day before the move I got a call from him confirming what time the guys were showing up the next day. The movers showed up on time even though it was during the ice storm! They were professional and courteous and got the job done quickly! My items were wrapped such as the couches and any wood items were wrapped with blankets for protection. All in all my experience was great and I would use these guys again. Also my estimate and actual costs were in line so no surprises there! Great job - big thank you to the guys for all their heavy lifting!
